When you call, immediately tell operator what issue concerns you. Operator will connect you with proper staff member.
The D.C. office handles legislative issues like bills and court nominees.
If you have a question or comment on a particular bill, the local office will ask a D.C. staffer to call you back.
If you tell staffers the content of a current bill which concerns you, they can look up the bill number for you.
Omaha office deals with constituent services like military pensions or federal regulation problems.
Local office will transcribe your information like name and address and place it in the computer, then forwarded on to the senator, so that she can see how her constituents feel on a particular issue.

Local office does not ask your political affiliation.
Sen. Fischer has 15 staffers in NE, 23 in D.C.
Senators given a specific amount of office funding to spend. They can apportion it to office needs and staff members as they wish.
Sen. Fischer serves on the Armed Services Committee because of her interest in national defense.
She serves on Agriculture Committee because of her ag background.
The Senate assigns new senators to committees that meet senator personal interests.
The Senate has passed more appropriation bills this year than since 2004-2005.
During Senate recesses, Sen. Fischer is very busy meeting with her constituents during 14 hr. days.
Most constituents contact their office by phone or email.
Local offices receive many calls and faxes from people who do not reside in NE, in order to fool the senator into believing that most of her constituents have a particular opinion.
This ruse does not fool local office staff.
They refer such callers to their own senator from state in which caller resides.
