NTF DISCLOSES OPS $8 MIL. OVER BUDGET

A taxpayer advocacy group accused the Omaha Public School district of spending nearly $8 million over its 2014 budget at Monday’s board meeting.

Doug Kagan with Nebraska Taxpayers for Freedom scolded the board for showing what he calls “poor math skills” with line item spending. He said the cost overrun of 15 projects shows poor management in the design and construction bidding process.

“Taxpayers deserve and demand better accounting, especially if the district intends to float another bond issue in 2017,” Kagan said. He also suggested financial penalties for cost overruns by contractors.
