NTF ISSUE PAPER: STOP AMNESTY FOR ILLEGAL ALIEN CHILDREN

NTF Issue Paper: cong139.doc. 7-17.
NEBRASKA TAXPAYERS FOR FREEDOM ISSUE PAPER:
STOP AMNESTY FOR ILLEGAL ALIEN CHILDREN.

BACKGROUND.
Liberals inside and outside of Congress are feverishly working together to guarantee permanent amnesty for 752,000 illegal alien children who have flooded over the southern border into our country in recent years or children brought here by illegally immigrating parents. President Obama granted these minors temporary amnesty by unconstitutional executive order under his Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

BAD BILL.
HR 496, sponsored by Cong. Mike Coffman (CO.), would bar deportation of these illegal alien minors. The bill now lies in the House Judiciary Comm. on Immigration & Border Security, awaiting a vote. The bill would alter our immigration law to require the Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) to grant a 3-year amnesty to these illegals, prohibit their deportation, and provide authorization for their employment. Eligible illegal aliens are ones born after June 15, 1981 and who entered the U.S. before age 16, continually lived in the U.S. since June 15, 2007, now reside here, attend school to gain a high school diploma, graduated from high school or have a GED certificate, pass a criminal background check, have no felony conviction, a significant misdemeanor or 3 or more misdemeanors not happening on the same date, do not represent a threat to our national security or public safety, and pay a small application fee possibly deferred for poor youth. Those under 15 also could apply if facing deportation. Such aliens would become lawfully present and protected in the U.S. during their pending amnesty proceedings period and while deferred. They would become eligible for work permits. Illegals who already have DACA status considered to have provisional protected presence until their DACA expiration date; then they would become eligible to apply affirmatively for permanent protected status. The bill also permits 220,000 additional, non-DACA minors to apply for amnesty. Sponsors carefully avoid publicity of an accompanying bill, the Recognizing America’s Children Act (RAC), that would give permanent amnesty and legal status leading to citizenship to these illegal minors through DHS, if they paid owed taxes.

BILL SPONSORS.
RINO Republican Rep. Coffman teamed with Socialist Dem Luis Gutierrez (Ill.), an active member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, to sponsor HR 496. Gutierrez laughably calls these aliens “freedom fighters, people who are leaders in our community” and seeks to grant amnesty to their family members, relatives, and neighbors. Surprisingly, NE Cong. Don Bacon has co-sponsored this bill. HR 496 has an identical Senate bill, S. 128, introduced by RINO Sen. Lindsey Graham(nesty) (S.C.) and leftist Dem Sen. Dick Durbin (Ill.). Leftist co-sponsors include Sens. Dianne Feinstein (CA.) and Chuck Schumer (NY).

LIBERAL MOTIVES.
Liberals seek to create a permanent underclass of citizens who do not speak English and have no background in or regard for our republican political institutions, free market economy, or American culture. Liberals want an infusion of unsophisticated voters who will vote solidly Democrat and support their socialist agenda.

PROPONENTS.
Supporters of both bills include the usual suspects. Leftist groups like First Focus Campaign for Children that is waging a multi-media campaign of public service announcements. The Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities together with 44 other higher ed communities sent a joint letter of support to Congress. The Network Lobby for Catholic Social Justice and American Immigration Lawyers Assoc. side with these illegals. Nike, Starbucks, Netflix, Airbnb, and Dropbox all support HR 496, so boycott their businesses.

CONSERVATIVE CRITICISM.
These liberals unfairly champion and protect those who violate our immigration laws and sneak into the U.S. illegally but ignore those who waited years and spent thousands to attain citizenship. Congress must focus on protecting American citizens from the ravages of illegal alien minors, particularly those involved in violent criminal gangs. The feds by this law could not share all information about criminal DACA illegals with the Immigration or Customs services. Such illegals clog our courts and fill our jails, costing taxpayers. Our national poverty rate is 13%, while the rate for illegal immigrants stands above 30%. These children cause a tremendous financial burden to our public schools by overfilling classrooms and requiring English as a 2nd Language teachers and staff. The older ones attend our colleges, crowding out lawful citizens for entrance slots. The deportation of DACA illegals will open up millions of jobs and job opportunities to lawful citizens.

TAKE ACTION NOW.
Because President Obama created DACA through an unconstitutional order, President Trump can terminate it without consultation with or approval from Congress. These bills would negate this Trump prerogative.
Contact Sens. Deb Fischer and Ben Sasse to vote NO on S. 128 and Reps. Jeff Fortenberry and Adrian Smith to vote NO on HR 496. And strongly urge Cong. Don Bacon to remove his name as a co-sponsor on this bill!
